The door is on the latch tonight,
The hearth-fire is aglow,
I seem to hear soft passing feet —
The Christchild in the snow.
My heart is open wide tonight
For stranger, kith or kin;
I would not bar a single door
Where love might enter in.

Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would come.
He wrote: “The people walking is darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:2 & 6).
A heavy darkness had settled upon the world, and the world yearned for light.
And light would surely come.
At the appointed time.
In a simple stable on an unassuming night, light would dawn upon humanity.
Its beams would settle upon people who were lost and living without hope.
We find ourselves in a similar state.
It seems all the light in the world is flickering under the weight of evil.
Yet, the Light of the world has not left us.
The gospel of John reminds us: “Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’” (John 8:12).
He is still here.
He is still with us.
Our hope is secure. Our promise has come.
Hold on with steady hands to the Hope that will not disappoint you.
Leave the door unlocked tonight.
Keep your heart open.
Let love enter in.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
