Okay, let me preface this post with the fact that I am the most non-spontaneous person on the planet.  Not kidding here.  And what I have up my sleeve right now could quite possibly be divine inspiration or a HUMUNGOUS flop.  I guess we’ll find out…

This morning Joel and I were talking at the kitchen table, gulping down a pot of coffee because we were out late last night, and the three little people that we share this house with were up at an ungodly hour.  That said, we started talking about God and stuff God is doing in our lives, which instantly inspired me to start sharing all the beautiful nuggets of wisdom and encouragement I gleaned from the book, My Bangs Look Good and Other Lies I Tell Myself (you can read my full review here).  I pulled my book out and started reading the underlined portions aloud (which was a lot because I practically underlined the whole thing).  We both laughed.  Good times.

As our conversation drew to a close, I sighed, “I wish I could buy a copy of this book for all my girlfriends.”

Not too long after, I came up with an idea.  What if I did a give-away on my blog – the prize being a copy of My Bangs Look Good… – with the stipulation that the winner has to pay it forward?  Meaning the lucky recipient of the book would then post their own My Bangs Look Good… give-away – via a blog or Facebook.  And the winner of that give-away must do the same thing, and so on and so forth.  Somehow, someway, keeping the goodness of this gift moving along like a wave of Tired Supergirls!

So…here’s how this give-away is going down:

  • Leave a comment on this blog sharing your most recent “oops” moment.
  • A winner will be randomly chosen on Thursday and announced Friday on my blog (only those living in the continental United States eligible).
  • The winner will be responsible for setting up their own give-away through a blog or Facebook (whichever medium works for them).

Let’s pay it forward…one book at a time!

Oooh, Ooooh, me:) OK, I did just have such an oop moment.

I was at church and it was time to meet and greet. I should preface this by saying I had just finished one of a three week food fast, so my brain was teetering on complete mushiness. I stood up and stretched my hand forward to the husband of a couple near me and said, “Hi, my name is Tammy.” He said hello back and then introduced his wife named Linda. She however, had turned away to greet someone else, so I waited awkwardly as she finished that up and then turned to me. I stretched out my arm again and said, “Hi, my name is LINDA.”
I quickly turned 14 shades of red and her husband said laughing, “No, your name is Tammy, her name is Linda!”
I was HORRIFIED. There is no way to recover from that and there was no time to explain…of course, I wouldn’t have known what to say anyway. I sat down in defeat. :)

I’m terrible at introductions too… several times I have tried to introduce a friend (usually someone I’ve known for YEARS) and just as I’m about to introduce – I forget her name. Completely blank. It’s so embarrassing.

An almost daily oops is starting out the day in the Word and full of praise, but by mid afternoon it’s all gone out of my mind and I’m snappy and grumbly and a million miles away from the Lord. More than anything I wish I could walk with Him through the entire day.

Sounds like a great book and a great idea! I’d love to pay it forward.

  3. You’re gonna love this one- happened just a few weeks ago…

So, I thought I’d be environmentally friendly by cleaning my kitchen using lemons that are growing in my backyard… I didn’t have any vinegar or baking soda to add to the mix, but figured- hey- lemon and water would clean just the same… so I set to work… and guess what- my kitchen was sparkling and smelling lemon fresh…

About a week later, Jed and I began to notice fruit flies- multiplying fast… a couple days later a friend came over and began laughing as I clapped at the air every few seconds- trying to kill those nasty buggards.

Where in the world were the fruit flies coming from- I checked everywhere for rotting food- behind the couch, under the sink, under the beds…

    And then, it hit me…
    Cleaning the kitchen with LEMONS…
Yep, a recipe for fruit flies…

    My – OOPS moment…
